My Little Addiction: Pinterest Strikes Again

If you haven’t been able to tell yet, one of my passions is digital illustration. Perfection is still a hard road ahead, but for people that have a hard time putting that first line down onto paper, digital art has been a fantastic alternative.

My process has always been pretty simple – find a reference I like, sketch out basic shapes, and then define it so the image matches what I have in my head. Simple, right?

This brings us to the topic I wanted to discuss today: Pinterest.

Pinterest has become a source for all kinds of things. Considering the majority of it is photos, I find it to be an excellent resource for ideas on how to properly use fonts, or where to buy that neat pen, you want. It's even helped me discover some really cool independent comic creators.

It is a great resource for finding reference images, so I've seen it recommended several times over. I decided to take a quick peek and see what everyone was buzzing about, and I found the same type of things as any other art reference site: sketches, paintings, sculptures, photography, etc. There were definitely some really cool images on the site; however, the problem came when I started looking for specific types of references and found that Pinterest falls a little flat.

There are other websites available for art references that can tailor more closely to what you want while being harder to handle for a wider audience.

With that being said, there isn't much about Pinterest that I don't love. I've always been one to seek out visual inspirations whether it be to buy an item or to create my own personal style. Looking at fashion photos, furniture layouts, nail art, home decor, etc… it's all the same thing; inspiration!
