Top 8 Best Procreate Brushes and Resources

One of my biggest downfalls is that the grass will always be greener on the other side. When I’m drawing on Procreate, I’ll get irritated when a brush doesn’t create the type of line I want, or texture, or blend. I’ll cycle through brushes one after another on my iPad. Then, I'll go on Etsy or Gumroad to scroll for hours trying to find that perfect brush for me and my style.

After two years of doing this, I’ve found eight brush sets (or resources) that I love. Let’s break it down so you can benefit from my neurotics.

PAID BRUSHES

Check out JingSketch's lighting techniques. Trust me.

Linework will always be the bane of my artistic existence, but JingSketch’s brush sets help ease some of that frustration. They do have a basic brush set for free which has some of their best brushes, but the full packages are worth it. I live and die by their sketch sets.

procreate brush set alcohol markers
I swear by both the alcohol marker sets and the sketch set. Game changer!

Listen, I’ve always had that starving artist archetype down to a T. What art supplies I got, I got from places like Walmart or Michael’s clearance aisle. With Sazor’s alcohol markers, my paintings come off looking like something from Artist Alley. I don’t even have to drop hundreds of dollars on top-of-the-line Copics to get the buttery consistency, even blending, and textures that I want. It has that pinky-up type of experience that I can’t stop using. This is a set that I use in almost all my paintings.

VIP brush sets youtube
He has a solid YouTube channel to go along with his resources.

If you haven’t checked out his YouTube, you should. It’s a treasure trove of information and learning experiences that can help you blossom as an artist. But that isn’t why we’re here today, is it? His VIP set has brushes for hair and skin texture that help bring out your characters. Some of the stabilities for the lining brushes are off after Procreate’s update, but that’s an easy fix to use the pack. 10/10 would recommend.

procreate brush sets micron ink
MICRON. DUPES.

Micron dupes. That’s legitimately my selling point on this prize of a brush pack. There are brushes for ink washes, but they fall short on the sheer PERFECTION of MICRON DUPES. I have a few of their sets, including the Paint, Nature, Ink, and STD set.. but the star of the show is micron dupes. Have I repeated myself enough? Because I’ve tried so many different brushes that said they were “like digital microns” and nothing has come close to Asuka111.

FREE BRUSHES

Best of the Best

I’ve been taking a character concept class online and Filipz’s free pack is a gamechanger. Instead of getting bogged down by details, this gives the freedom to get looser with your sketches and get the shapes you want.

Great for a foundation and to put personality down on your screen.

free brush sets procreate
they have both paid and free, but their free brush library is huge.

So, this isn’t a singular brush set, rather a website with a bunch of free packs that I’ve spent hours cruising. They have 69 pages (heh) of stamps and brushes, so prepare to lose half your day in it. So worth it though.

Another website with over 500 different brushes. I found Taozipie’s skin set through this site and haven’t turned back since. So many awesome resources that, once again, have fun losing half your day.

Their inking brush sets are some of the most comprehensive and original I’ve seen. And they have a resource archive where you can find their brush sets for previous Inktobers, which is phenomenal. Though I haven’t downloaded it (my poor iPad only has so much space), they do offer a megapack of over 2k different brushes. The time and effort that had to go into making those make me want to take a nap.

OTHER RESOURCES

Something I don’t see getting recommended a lot is Procreate Folio, which is one of THE BEST resources for Procreate users. They have troubleshooting help, free brush hookups, art inspo, and so much more. Even if you don’t pay a lick to anything else I’ve said, go check Folio out.
